This is not the aspiration of Muslims, it certainly not.

Muslimah, we cannot point fingers at anyone by whatever lifestyle they might have.
We all know Allah is All Forgiving,All Merciful. Furthermore, we cannot assume Mikail (Muslim name) will be saved from the fire or not.
Alhamdulillah, he made Shahada last November. We must consider the fact that he did after his conversion, intended on touring again, for which Allah somehow prohibited.
But as I said, we will never know if during that second he felt chest pain he said Laa Illaha Illallah, and ask for forgiveness.

Just because some of us here are sad that Michael Jackson passed away doesn’t mean we think music is halaal. One thing I can’t stand are the people going around acting like the “haraam police.” People like Muslimah aren’t being fair. I too used to listen to Michael Jackson when I was a kid, before I became religious. And as some of the members here, Michael Jackson was a huge pop star and for someone that had “everything” and was not satisfied until he became Muslim (Allah subhan wa’tala knows best)tells us alot. Music is haraam yet you have most likely listened to it yourself.
I have not heard of sahaabi or taabiee becoming a pop star.
But I do know this, regardless, this man was a pop star, he probably did more in a positive light for the world than you ever did.
He actually tried to instill some unity amongst all.
To me, the greatest hypocrites are those that speak like the way you have written. In today’s world, you do drive a car, you do watch tv, you do or your kids have worn jeans, you have done millions of things that contradict to your faith, but you pick and choose when it is time to criticize others. The best thing you could have done is to stay quiet and ignore this post as you were not in favor of this man, but yet you put forward how wrong music was, and why it is wrong to to aspire this, since it is wrong according to the way you believe. I can surely state, from my own things I have done in my life time, that this man, Michael, probably has done more in a positive light in bigger numbers than I have done. Through music he did promote peace and unity. Yet he is a big pop icon throughout the world. If he did become Muslim then Alhumdulillah. It will maybe show those people that speak Muslims in a negative way something different and maybe shift them towards knowledge. Maybe they will read and educate themselves and who knows maybe they will become a Muslim.
I disagree with you completely as I disagree with those Muslims that think they are the only ones on the right path and everyone else is wrong. I disagree with those that believe they know it all yet they do many things hypocritical in life. Those that badmouth others or speak of them in a negative light use that same mouth to recite their prayers 5 times a day and make their duas. There is so much more to it, but when you analyze it all in the end, you realize how some people are. They have no tolerance for others just like those that make fun of Muslims on tv. We have many people in our communities/families who do not perform music etc, but could be considered to be much worse people. Qibr is one of those aspects. Praying for the deceased is required for all people, not just for the pious sister.
It takes all sorts in the world. Don’t forget the lady who put date seeds from one bowl to another whenever she saw a man visit her neighbour. Allah did not forgive her for judging someone else, but the lady was forgiven. We all have our personal problems and tests. In his circumstance, how easy would you have found it?

I agree that music is haraam, and we should NOT wish for any of our notable figures in the community to be in the entertainment world. HOWEVER, if indeed Michael Jackson became a Muslim – and Allah Knows Best – then we should be happy that someone reverted to Islam. Anyone who says the shahadah has hope of being saved from eternal hellfire, even if he has sinned, whether the sin be music or something else. None of us are sin free. If he did become Muslim, then may Allah SWT have mercy on his soul and forgive his sins, and save him from punishment of the grave and of the hellfire. Ameen.

When I read first online he passed away I felt as if the world has come to end. I felt part of me died with our beloved brother Michael Jackson. Inshallah, MJ did truely become muslim and submit his soul and body to the lord of the world Allah swt. We as muslim should really try to refrain from passing judgement on other muslims. No muslim is without sin, some are major and some are small. MJ’s life played out in public, he was not able to easily hide his demons, however, some of us are blessed by our lord to be able to hide what we do in our own homes. We should be encouraging his family to respect the burial rights of our brother and pray for his soul. Hopefully the good deeds this brother did for humanity will out weigh the bad deeds which mainly were against his own soul. MJ may Allah, swt grant you paradise and forgive you of your discretions, may your enormous amounts of good deeds intercede for your soul.

The hostile comments posted against Muslimah’s rather honest comment is symptomatic of the time we live in today when issues of faith are judged on emotions and ignorant exhortations. I did not read in Muslimah’s comment any hint of judgement intended or passed. She, as well as the rest of us, has a duty to speak straighforadly- even if it is against ourselves. When people enter into Islam, they DECLARE shahada publicly and thereafter PRACTISE Islam openly. Islam is not some kind of cult where everyone assumes everyone is a member. It is really a sad development that the assumption that he was a Muslim has dominated discussions here, drowning the more important issues raised by the sister’s comment and although she is accused of passing judgement on MJ, it is sad, that the same people who make this false allegation are themselves passing jusdgement on her.

This rumour could be true if it was stated live on television and isn’t written online yet. Mr Blizzer must have had some source of info about this to actually state it, unless he didn’t say it. Did anyone actually here watch the program where it was stated? At the end of the day, the matter isn’t that important but obviously if it is a lie, then i don’t know what sort of sick kick someone gets out of spreading mischievious lies. I personally believe he did revert despite a denial by his publist. It does seem logical especially since his brother jermaine did previously revert which was also denied as rumours untill he appeared on Big brother UK preaching Islam. It doesn’t make much good PR if you state your a muslim in the west, especially if your trying to make a come back. Jackson was 50 years old and did toy with the idea in his younger years. It does seem reasonable he would turn to it when he is reaching his twlight years. I just don’t understand why anyone would want to spread lies??

WE ALL are in need of Allah’s forgiveness,no matter how righteous we live or believe that we are righteous.
Instead of condemning someone who has already left this world,and achieved what he was destined to,let us appreciate the fact that Allah guided hin to the right path and he accepted Islam.Wasn’t that much better for him,than to have died in a state of dis-belief ?
The one who has recited La-ilaaha illallah MuhammadurRasool Allah ,with aqeedah,will not be destined to hell forever.
But who are we to judge?
Who knows,maybe Allah has already forgiven him…?
And so just let us pray for his forgiveness and Allah’s mercy on him,because a muslim desires for his brother,what he desires for himself and he himself gets what he wishes for his brother.

There is a hadith that says a sinner can at the last point in his life repent and go to Heaven. Like wise a believer can at the last time sin n go to hell. Only Allah knows the fate of MJ. But i pray To Almighty Allah, that if it is true that he converted at any point, may i be very close to him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin

When I first heard that he had passed away, my immediate thoughts were that as a Muslim his soul wasn’t too comfortable with the whole tour issue and that Allah saved him from having to do something he didn’t really want.

May Allah grant him paradise/ Jannah. All these years he was a big pop star n 1year ago he joined the stars of all stars, the Muslim ummah. Allah says who ever recites “There is no god but Allah and Mohammad is the last messenger of Allah”/converts to Islam, i will 4give anything he/she did in their past life no matter how against it would of been in the court of Allah. u never know, but things happen for a reason, it was written for him to live a life of a pop star n then b among the ummah before death as this will bring more awareness among people as he had plenty of fans and was well known. We believe in Jesus aswell- that he was a prophet, n we love him as a prophet but the god of the prophets n us is allah no matter how rich or poor you r. Its all in the hands of Allah. The people on this website declaring music haram and by extension that Michael Jackson was a fasiq are, I suspect, those who declare themselves salafiyah or those who claim to follow the salaf. There is no, I repeat, NO, clear ayot or sound ahadith that categorically and explicitly declares music in and of itself forbidden. There is in Islam something called “italaf” which means disagreement among the scholars on a particular issue. The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh)said that “Disagreement among the scholars is a mercy to the believers.” What does this have to do with music? The subject of music has been hotly debated between the four schools of thought and within each school of thought. There is no unanimous agreement that music is haram among the scholars and this is important because the question that these nutcases on this site have to answer is why would there be divergent opinions on a subject that they claim is clarified in Quran and ahadith? There’s no difference of opinion on the status of fornication, alcohol, or interest but on music there is. Why? It is because music is not clearly and unamiguously declared haram in the authentic sources of this religion and people more knowledgable about Islam than I hold this position. But! Let us pretend that this “Salafiyah” cult is right–that music is categorically forbidden and that by extension Michael Jackson and his Muslim fans are fasiqoon(Bad Muslims). The same collection of Bukhari and Muslim that these ignoramousess selectively quote from narrate that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that “Even if a Muslim was WICKED he has is to recieve an Islamic burial and it be attended by the Muslims.” So, even if their premise were right their conclusion is still wrong.
These “Salafiyah” clowns are nothing but a cult. They are no different from the Khawarij of the time of the Khilafah al Rashidun. They are just another divisive group within the Ummah who threaten to tear it apart. There is good news brothers and sisters they are dying out. Their popularity, particularly among African-Americans, is diminishing. As more of us study Islam and acquire Ilm-al-Dunya knowledge of the World their existence becomes increasingly absurd. We pray that they are eradicated and that more sober minded people run the Ummah.

Well actually if you want to get really specific, then please refer to the ayah which talks about “lahwul hadith” (31:6-7) i.e. “useless talk”.
Ibn Mas3oud [ra] was known as being one of the foremost authorities on the Qur’an and he swore by Allah three times that that ayah was referring to music.
And no, I’m not Salafi nor does anyone consider me as such.

And as for modassar – just because michael became a muslim at the end of his life it doesnt mean others will follow the muslim religion, don’t forget the religion that came before you or the man who came before mohamed- jesus, and all his followers will have the kingdom of heaven also. As no one is given the right of passage into heaven only by the name of their religion but by the works of their heart and how they lived their lives.

Due to Sister Muslimah’s harsh judgement about MJ and music in general, I must ask “based on what?” I first became Muslim in 1974 and I have read various English translations of the Qur’an (I can also read the Arabic but not very fluently) but not once have I read the part about music being haram (unlawful.) Please someone correct me if I am wrong. Allah (swa) is the ONLY One to declare anything as being halal or haram (lawful or unlawful) in Islam. I have not read all English translations of the many Hadiths available, but even if it is there, does the Hadith have the authority to declare something as being Haram? “Not Recommended”, “Highly Undesirable”, etc. is the type statement a Hadith can convey to us as Muslims, but not Haram.
I am a musician. I started formal lessons at age seven. I was quite active in all of my high school’s bands, and in looking back, I’m sure that helped this inner city youth stay out of trouble. I have taught music (on a voluntary basis) at a Muslim school. I teach them that birds sing and a heart keeps a steady beat. I no longer listen to songs that I used to love (e.g. Me & Mrs. Jones, If Loving You Is Wrong I Don’t Wanna Be Right, You Me & He, etc. etc. etc.) nor do I play in clubs filled with smoke, liquor and scantilly clad women as in the past. I DO NOT aspire to be a pop star, and I do not say this to pass judgement on MJ because prior to being Muslim I did.
So, I hope that according to this sister I am not banished to hell fire along with MJ and all the rest of us terrible Muslims who listen to music.
Actually, I believe that “there is no Diety except Allah and that Muhammed is the messenger of Allah,” I pray the five daily obligatory salat, I am charitable, I fast during Ramadan and I have performed the Hajj.
Does Sister Muslimah make this statement about music being haram as fact or extremely strong opinion. Shed as much FACTUAL light, specifically the Sura/Ayat where confirmation can be found.

The word “trophy” may not be the best term, however It is true that Islaam has benefited from the conversion/reversion of certain figures even from the beginning. Remember that Umar Al Khattab (RAA) and Hamza (RAA), just to name a couple, came to the diyn, the Kuffar were put on edge due the the ferce reputations of these to great sahabi. MJ was not a warrior or one who struck fear in others. But people do still aspire to emulate him. The truth of Islaam is the ultimate epoxy that holds us all together, but sometimes the catalyst my be a person that you love or respect.

Brother Hassan, assalaamu alaikum. Jazak Allah Khair for your informative post, and I am very happy that I am not the only one that is sticking up for the truth about music. One thing I’d like to say, brother, is that the Hadiths are as valid as the Qur’an in determining Halal (Islamically permitted things) and haraam (Islamically forbidden things). However, the Hadiths have to be in line with what the Qur’an teaches, they have to have a sound chain of narration, and the style of storytelling in the hadith has to be consistent with the style of storytelling that the scholars of Hadith have attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Otherwise, the Hadiths that don’t conform to all of these standards are to either be reinterpreted or altogether REJECTED! I hope that gives at least clarification on Hadiths. There was an article by the sun which was interviewing david gest, michaels jordans childhood friend about the possible funeral arrangements. In that interview he dismissed the notion there would be an islamic funeral. I don’t know how accurate this is but i know david was one of michael’s closest friends. I don’t think this neccessarily means jackson wasn’t a muslim since jackson’s funeral plans seem to be flexible ie multiple funerals etc however i wouldn’t be surprised if michael did not accept islam but then again, i wouldn’t be surprised if he did either. Only michael’s brother jermaine and family most likely know the actual reality of the situation. But what i do know is that, the Sun and the western newspapers were the first to publish this alleged conversion back in november 08′ so i would hold them responsible for any confusion or false information.

When I tried to log on to my laptop, a message saying “there are not sufficient resources to load” my account with the default something-or-other came up. The box had a timer that was going to close the box, and then when it closed it would not log me on. I couldn’t turn it off normally so I cut the power. When I turned it back on I logged on fine?

Umar was a very brutal person before his conversion, read Sahih Buhkari to see how he treated his sister when she converted( before him)

if Allahs messenger did not approve of group sunnah prayers, why did one of his Sahaba introduce the “good bida” of Tarawih prayers. the Quran( Surah Hujurat) and History even states that the Sahaba committed errors up until their deaths.

Michael Jackson converted to Islam because he wanted to. Islam came to his heart. Despite of all rumours & opinions, it was FATED that he is a Muslim when he passed away.

We should not support one based on their religion. As a muslim we should all be tolerant and not judgemental. Doesn’ matter whether one is a singer or an actor.We have been taught to respect others irregardless of who they are or which religion they embraced. Do not give the wrong idea about Islam to the NON- Muslims !
