Imam Johari Abdul-Malik speaks-out at EPA Public Hearing

Monday, May 18th 2009, Imam Johari Abdul-Malik, Outreach Director of Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, Chair of Government Relations Muslim Alliance in North America and Board member Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington presented in support of the EPA Public Hearing to regulate Green House Gases as a pollutant.

The Sierra Club reported on the meeting and CNSNews reported that the science is clear and our thirst for fossil fuels has lead the world in the wrong direction – we must lead.

EPA Testimony
Thanks to the DC Green Muslims for their leadership. My name is Imam Johari Abdul-Malik, I serve as Director Outreach, board member of the Coordinating Council of Muslims Organizations and the Director of the Government relations for the Muslim Alliance in North America.

I Believe in God, the prophets and that Green House Gases are pollutants.
The Prophet Solomon is reported in a biblical story, he offered the two women who claimed to be the mother of the baby but could not agree the judgment to cut the baby in half. Let our choice is not between cutting the needs of our planet in half – the choice is not development or the environment. We don’t need to cut the planet in half.

Our Values
1. Adil-Justice
2. Mercy-Rahma
3. Balance-mizan

The War on Terror is considered by some as a euphemism for the war to acquire Oil and natural Gas. We are in need of:
1. Laws
2. Regulation
3. Personal Change

In the 1970’s we moved mountains to respond to the perceived gas shortage. We were successful by wedding our regulations to our core values. I remember the “SAVE LIVES – DRIVE 55” and MADD

America must lead the world in Climate Change
With our
1. Sacrifice,
2. Wisdom,
3. Ingenuity

Let us be Rahmatul alamin…..a mercy to all the worlds.
