In a recent OpEd in the Washington Examiner, Andrew C. McCarthy: “Jihadist glorified on silver screen” by: Andrew C. McCarthy writes……..
“For his part, Abdul-Malik is a bit more circumspect. When asked by the investigative journalist Paul Sperry about other “sermons” at the mosque that lionize violent jihad and “martyrdom,” Abdul-Malik couldn’t see what the problem might be. In their own way, he explained, Muslims are like United States marines, a spiritual force in Allah’s cause:
“Telling people to give their all for their faith is not an unusual idea. That’s the same thing as telling Marines in this country semper fidelis.”
These references were in the context of the methods of the African National Congress in South Africa while under Apartheid or the tactics of the Irish Republican Army. The statement was intended to say that 911 was wrong. Just because you call yourself a hero doesn’t make you one. Click here for link to speech.
The model of the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, in combat is well known, he said……
‘do not harm non-combatants, women, children, the farmer in the field, the religious people (priest, monks, clergy, etc), do not kill animals, cut down trees or destroy infrastructure (houses, roads, bridges), any goods needed for the army must be purchased – not commandeered, for every prisoner of war; you must feed him from what you eat, clothe him from what you wear and any prisoner who can teach 10 people to read – set them free.’
I have a proven track record on Non-Violent Resistance for Social Change.
Before the tragic events of 911, I spoke at a rally in the Holy Land (Palestine-Israel) in a town called Um El-Fahem at an event called “The Jerusalem Festival”. I spoke to 60,000 Palestinians in the audience and thousands more on radio and TV. I reminded them that as an African-American that my people were second class citizens in our own country and that with the help of people of good will we gained our rights and became free. But I warned them about violence as I quoted from the Qur’an, ‘Do not let your enmity of a people cause you to be unjust’ and that Allah will help them, that the world is standing for justice and that we have not forgotten them.
