I just left a VOICE Action at Greenbrier Baptist Church. We are working with the local community in Arlington to get the Department of Human Services to make it easier for people to reach their headquarters. The department closed its local office. The issue is that when DHS was in Clarendon, DHS resident could take one bus and be there inside 30 minutes. Since DHS has moved to Washington Blvd, they like their neighbors must take two buses which can take as long as 90 minutes. This is a real hardship when the weather is bad and small children are involved as is frequently the case. DHS does a great job and clients got there inoculations, health issues, job training, job search, housing grants and emergency assistance.
Keith Zimmerman, Chairman of the Arlington Board, joined us for the meeting/Action voted against the move and has agreed to work to get bus re-routing to serve this community which is near our masjid. Please attend the County hearing this Tuesday regarding this issue 7 PM at the Arlington board headquarters or send an e-mail in support of this effort to the chairman (firstname.lastname@example.org) Thank you. Together we can make a difference .
