Northern Virginia Mosque Dar Al-Hijrah and Faith Leaders Host Prayer Vigil for Alexandria Man Slain in Huntington Park

Northern Virginia Mosque Dar Al-Hijrah Extends Condolences To The Family of Khalil Aboumalik.

A coalition of faith and community groups lead by Rev Carolyn Boyd (Plymouth Congregational Church) and Imam Johari Abdul-Malik (Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center) will hold a candle light vigil at the site of the murder of 42 year old Moroccan Muslim, Khalid Aboumalik.  Mr. Aboumalik was apparently killed while being robbed by neighborhood youth.

According to WUSA9-TVAboumalik’s body was found in Huntington Park on August 5. Police say residents spotted his body lying not far from a baseball field while walking through the area”.

Rev Boyd said, “We come together to heal and affirm the dignity of our community, to advance the values of peace, safety and a shared community”.

Sources report his remains were sent to his family with the help of the Moroccan government.

According to Imam Johari Abdul-Malik, “While the nation is grappling with a spike in police brutality directed toward black people and the resultant black rage, let us not forget that the overwhelming majority of black lives lost is due to black-on-black crime”.
